The Chinese Embassy in the Philippines recently issued a statement emphasizing its support for the Philippine government’s determination to solve the problem of the offshore gaming industry.

The statement comes in response to the recent arrest of a Chinese citizen during a raid in Taguig City. According to reports, the Chinese citizen was suspected of being involved in an online gambling business and was arrested for possessing high-performance firearms.

The embassy said it will work closely with Philippine law enforcement agencies to maintain communication on criminal activities related to Philippine offshore gaming operators (POGOs).

The statement emphasized: "According to Chinese law, any form of gambling is illegal." The Chinese government has always opposed and cracked down on Chinese citizens engaging in gambling business abroad in accordance with the law.

The statement also pointed out: "The Chinese government has always required overseas citizens to abide by local laws and regulations. Gambling is a social nuisance, and the Chinese are the victims of overseas gambling."

The National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) reportedly arrested a 24-year-old Chinese citizen during a raid in Barangay Bambang, Taguig City. Police found weapons and equipment such as air guns, pistols, rifles, grenades and bullets at the scene.

Another Chinese national was arrested on suspicion of bribing police. He allegedly attempted to pay 3 million Philippine pesos (approximately $52,400) in exchange for his and another Chinese national's release. The two men were detained during the raid.
