President Marcos points to hospitality as driver of Philippine tourism economy

Philippine President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. has emphasized the critical role of Filipino hospitality in driving the growth of the Philippine tourism industry and boosting the overall economy.

In his latest vlog, President Marcos highlighted the deep-rooted warmth of Philippine society and urged his countrymen to demonstrate this trait to tourists. He shared the positive comments from foreign dignitaries on the warm reception received by the Philippines, viewing it as a matter of national pride.

President Marcos said that Filipino hospitality is not only a major feature of the country, but also an important part of the Philippine tourism brand. He emphasized the importance of continuously enhancing and demonstrating this characteristic as an essential element in the journey towards a “New Philippines.” The President also shared stories of how Filipinos demonstrate hospitality during official visits by world leaders, demonstrating the country's commitment to welcoming guests.

Meanwhile, Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR) Chairman Alejandro H. Tengco said in a recent interview with AGB that Manila’s casino tourism industry may focus on a balance between gambling and non-gambling activities instead of over-emphasizing gambling like Macau.

He also expressed his belief that through privatization and regulatory reforms, the Philippines will become one of the most attractive gaming jurisdictions in Southeast Asia and even the Asia-Pacific region after Macau.
