In April, following a strong performance in March where Maryland casinos recorded their fifth-best month for gaming revenue, there was a noticeable decline in gambling activity. Total gaming revenue across the state's six casinos dropped by 6.6% compared to the previous year, amounting to $163.2 million.
MGM National Harbor remained the top-performing casino, generating $68.1 million in gaming revenue. However, this represented a 9.8% decrease from the same period last year. Meanwhile, Horseshoe Casino in Baltimore experienced a decline of 10.8%, reporting $14.7 million in gaming revenue for April. Live! Casino & Hotel at Arundel Mills saw the smallest year-over-year decrease, with gaming revenue totaling $60.1 million, down by 1.9% from April of the previous year.
Among the state's smaller casinos, performance varied. Hollywood Casino observed a 6% increase in April gaming revenue, while Ocean Downs experienced a decrease of 7.6%, and Rocky Gap Casino saw a significant decline of 20.6%.
In terms of contributions to the state, casinos provided $69.8 million, with a significant portion allocated to Maryland's education trust fund. However, April's figures were lower than those of March, when the combined gaming revenue reached $178.1 million.
